Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh Keeping Pets and Families Together

Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) finds new homes for thousands of homeless animals every year. Studies have proven that pets provide stress relief and purpose to their owner’s lives (as well as countless other health benefits) – comforts that are important when other aspects of an individual’s life may be uprooted.

Pets are an important part of our families, and HARP is committed to help keep pets in loving homes, making sure that no one has to make the difficult decision to give up their pet because they can’t provide basic care.  Animals are surrendered to our shelter every year because the family feels they are out of options. We work every day to provide these families with alternatives, implementing new programs to help our neighbors and their pets.

Through our support programs, families who are experiencing difficult times are given assistance to avoid the further heartbreak of losing their beloved pet.

Often, we see people prioritize food for their pets over food for themselves. We want to do our part by making sure that no pet goes hungry. Ellie’s Pet Pantry supplies community members with food and basic supplies for their pets, assisting those who are experiencing financial insecurity and struggling. Contact Ellie’s Pet Pantry at 412-345-7300 ext. 290 for more information.

HARP’s free Pet Helpline provides caring, compassionate advice and resources to address obstacles a pet owner may be experiencing. Whether you need help managing your pet’s behavior, information on low-cost veterinary care, pet-friendly housing, spay/neuter surgery, or other resources, contact our Pet Helpline at 412-345-0348 or via email at pethelpline@HumaneAnimalRrescue.org,  We are happy to help provide the care they need while you give them the love they deserve.
